Visiting St. Augustine from Daytona Beach

Staugustine

If you are visiting the Daytona Beach area and you want something fun to do for the day, head up to St. Augustine. Located just over an hour north of Daytona Beach you will find one of the oldest cities in the country. St. Augustine is a great historic town that you can visit anytime of the year. If you get a chance to go during the month of December it's even more of a treat, because they light the city up with millions of Christmas lights and you can take a holly jolly trolley ride through the city, viewing the lights and singing carols.

Plan on doing some walking if St. Augustine, if you are able to. If you are not able to then you can plan to take the trolley tour to see around the city. You can park your car in the big parking garage that is centrally located and then it's easy to walk around the city. St. Augustine is a place where many middle school students from the Daytona Beach area go to each year for a field trip, learning about the history of the city, and exploring.

While in St. Augustine, you will want to check out some of the historic sites, including Castillo San Marcos, which is a real historical fort. You can take a tour of the fort, which is always a treat. Across from the street from the fort you will find a really cool pirate museum that is worth checking out. Once you have finished that, then you will want to head back behind the pirate museum to St. George Street. This is a great historical street that is closed to vehicles. You can stroll the street for a couple of hours, just checking out the unique shops, stop for a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants, or visit the oldest wooden schoolhouse in the country. St. George Street is a neat place to check out, featuring many different types of shops.

If you are into seeing old beautiful trees, be sure to swing past the Old Senator Tree in St. Augustine, which is over 600 years old. It's free to see and literally roped off in the middle of a hotel parking lot. Beautiful tree to see if you have the time. If you are looking for entertainment, check out what is going on at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, because they often have good people in concert, as well as host events throughout the year.

There are other things to do in St. Augustine as well, it just depends on what you would like to check out. There are other museums, attractions, restaurants, boat tours, beaches, and more. But if you are staying in the Daytona Beach area and want to spend some time in St. Augustine, sticking right to the tourist corridor and hitting the fort, pirate museum, and St. George Street is a great way to go. If you are going in the evening, add in a nice trolley ride, especially if it's during December.

St. Augustine is a unique little town in Florida that is well worth checking out if you will be close enough to do so! If you want to add a little more fun to your trip, opt to drive A1A up there or back down. This will keep you along the ocean all the way, giving you a beautiful scenic drive (although it's slower than taking the freeway).
